Suck Blister

Suck blister

Suck blister is a term that can refer to two similar but different medical conditions:

The first, a blister (sometimes more than one), that a new baby is born with that in most cases appears in one of the upper limbs and caused by the sucking of the area whilst inside the womb. The blisters disappear very fast without a medical outcome.

The second, a single blister in the center of an infant per lip (see photo). The blister is caused by the friction of the lip with the nipple or bottle during the sucking action. The blister has no significance, it doesn’t hurt and goes away in several days.

The sucking blister doesn’t indicate any hidden condition or problem in the baby and has no connection to tongue-tie.
